How Often Should I Reboot?

Perhaps you’ve just completed your Reboot; you feel amazing and are thinking: I’d really like to do this again, and soon! When is the healthiest time for your next juicy adventure?
Team Reboot’s nutritionists got together to create this guide for you. Keep in mind that everyone’s needs are different, and this guide is meant as a general roadmap, not individual recommendations. You are welcome to wait longer between Reboots, but generally we feel that the suggestions below reflect the quickest recommended turnaround between Reboots. It may not be ideal to Reboot sooner because the Reboot includes only fruits, vegetables, herbs/spices, and over an extended period of time, you may miss out on other important nutrients required for sustaining health. If you follow a modified Reboot that includes healthy, complete plant-based meals (like with legumes, beans, nuts, seeds, whole grains) the guidelines may differ depending on the details of your day to day diet.
If you are unsure when to Reboot next, are taking medications or have completed or plan to embark on an extended Reboot, please consult with your doctor. If you have any nutrition related questions please find us in the Ask the Nutritionist forum.
Here is a timeline based on our current plans:
Long Weekend Reboot (3 days) – Once a month
Express Reboot (5 days) – Every 2 months
Quick Start Reboot (10 days) – Every 3 months
Classic Reboot (15 days) – Every 3 months
*For a 30 day Reboot – every 6 months
**For a 60 day Reboot - once a year
Please note both of these extended Reboots (30 day, 60 day) should be done under the supervision of a doctor, even if you do not take medication or have a health condition.
How often do you Reboot? We would love to hear from you!

I do the long reboot every weekend and during the week, I juice 4 times a day with one meal. Am i doing this ok ?
How long are you doing this for Hector? Sounds like a great plan for now but going forward what is your time frame?
Great post from Reboot Nutrionist Stacy K. for those that have asked “How Often Should I Reboot” http://t.co/qK6WDc60
If i practice sports will juicing sufice my nutrient needs?
Hi Luis, here is information about sports and the reboot http://www.jointhereboot.com/fitness-facts-for-your-reboot/
Let me know if you have any questions
So what about building juice into a regular daily diet? For example, 2-3 juices a day with at least one meal of say salads, some protein, etc…. Because of work, travel, my schedule I find this works incredibly well. I actually like it and prefer to eat this way. Is that a problem?
Hi Drew, great question! This style of eating/drinking could be very healthy and fits well into your lifestyle, but over the long term you will want your doctor to check some basic bloodwork to be sure you are getting everything you need and then adjusting your meal/juice plan accordingly.
i would like to do the 60 days reboot but i dont see a plan for that
Hi tonyman, here is a link to creating your own juice only plan – for 60 days we suggest you work closely with your doctor, just like Joe and Phil did in the film. Enjoy! http://www.jointhereboot.com/want-to-do-a-juice-only-reboot/
I am alternating 10 days juicing with 10 days of healthy eating with focus on nuts, seeds, legumes, plant based and raw foods and incorporating healthy fats etc.
My goal is to this until I get closer to my ideal weight (opposed to straight 60 day juicing). I seems to work well at this point.
Am I reading it correctly….I can safely do the Long Weekend reboot once a month? Would it be “healthy” to do a Saturday & Sunday reboot on a regular basis while eating a healthy diet throughout the week?
Hi Geri, what is “healthy” always depends on your individual situation so it’s always good to check with your doctor about the ideal frequency. But you could consider the Long Weekend reboot once a month or just juice one day a week with carefuly planning and attention to your meals and drinks each day.
Stacy,
I don’t take in any caffeine like coffee, but what If I take vyvanse for ADD, and I am planning on starting a 10 day reboot? Is there any major concern with this?
Chris
Hi Chris, great question – fruits, veggies, juice and ADD/ADHD is the topic of my new post for next week, so stay tuned! Good you are already not drinking caffeine before starting, but with your medication you’ll want to check with your doctor to let them know about your reboot and any precautions you should be mindful of – I don’t know of any drug-nutrient interactions with your medication, but the first few days of the reboot can leave you feeling fatigued, headaches, etc.. Be sure and drink lots of water and enough juice throughout the day to keep your energy up – and juices that are primarily veggies with a little fruit is the goal. Enjoy and reach out anytime with questions or concerns
I am about to start my first ever reboot and I need some advice. I had some left over organic apples and kale so I decided to juice them up the other day. I drank about 16 oz fo this mixture and about 15 minutes after that I started feeling very nauseated. I never got a point where I actually felt like I was going to vomit but I did feel pretty bad for about 30-45 minutes and then it subsided. This happened to me the last time I had a shot of wheatgrass juice as well but that time I actually did vomit. It wasn’t the taste of the juice either, I actually don’t mind the taste. Any ideas?? Thanks!
Hi afinn, perhaps it’s just a bit much at once to your system – try diluting your juice a bit with water or coconut water, drinking smaller amounts more often rather then 16 oz at once and see if this helps. If it doesn’t do the trick, try eating along with juicing like in our Quick Start or Express programs. Keep us posted!
I will give that a try. I start tomorrow so I’ll definitely let you know how it goes!! Thanks a million!!
I saw the movie, “Fat, Sick, And Nearly Dead” and was so inspired I actually bought a juice extractor, at Walmart.com,which will arrive on 7/25/12. However I am 6’4″ tall and weigh 285 lb. and I have type 2 diabetes. before watching the movie I was considering weight loss surgery. I know I need two consult my physician, but I won’t get to see her for another three months I want to get started drinking delicious juices right away! Not just to lose the weight but I’m looking forward to feeling more energetic like Joe and Phil. What should I do ? I can’t WAIT to get started. (:-O
busbyw – I was in a similar situation as you. I’m 5’11″ and I was at 311 when I started. I also have type 2 diabetes. I was between my 3 month checks up with the doc. I lost about 10 pounds pretty quickly and the one thing I really noticed was my morning sugar levels dropped right off. My Dr. actually cut my meds (metformin) in half and I’m still pretty low (usually under 100 every morning). Right now I’m really mixing juicing and eating together and have seen good success. Sugars are still low. Weight is down 22 pounds. Appetite is down…..energy is up. By far the reboot is the best process I’ve ever tried to loose weight and keep my sugars in control without feeling starved or deprived.
I have never done this before but im trying to give it a shot . Im trying to figure out how much do we have to intake in a day ( cups , ounce etc , ) … im trying to lose weight plus get some energy and most of all stay heathly ..
Hi Jonnap, we suggest having 4-6 juices per day at 16-20 oz each (480-600mL) plus at least 64 oz/2L of water. Best to you!
Today is my first day starting the reboot! I will do it for 10 day and more than anything I want to do it becuase I am always tired never have energy and depend on caffeine. I am looking everywhere on the blog but can’t find the 10 day juicing only the one that includes eating, is it posted in this blog Stacy?
Hi Pauline, here’s wishing you a wonderful day 1! Here is the link about setting up your own juice only plan http://www.jointhereboot.com/want-to-do-a-juice-only-reboot/
Enjoy!
I am getting ready to start my first reboot. I have a Vita-Mix is that OK to use instead of a true juicer?
Hi jewboy40cal, yes you can reboot with a blender instead of a juicer – both can be healthy, just different. Here is more info http://www.jointhereboot.com/the-great-debate-juicing-vs-smoothies/
Enjoy!
I’m starting today too and have a Vita-Mix…how is it going for you?

Stacy,
my work is mainly client facing, so I cant avoid eating out. can I juice for breakfast + lunch and have my usual food/drinks for dinner (processed/meat/alcohol). Does this hv any negative effects? rit now I’m in good health except 20lbs overweight.
Hi Andy, check out our Juice Until Dinner plans for some ideas – doing juice for breakfast and lunch then dinner can work well but it’s important to choose wisely at dinner and get plant based options and consider a fish (not fried) in place of meat or a vegetarian meal. Limit alcohol as much as possible and be sure to drink lots of water. Including processed foods, lots of alcohol or meat that isn’t grass fed will introduce more work for your body to process and tax the immune system, reducing the potential benefits of the juice – the nutrients in juice will help to effectively and safely deal with the introduction of these less healthy choices but it will reduce their potential to go beyond dealing with the in the moment challenges of the business dinners. You bring up a very real concern for many people and I look forward to hearing about what healthy choices you are able to make in the context of your social/client meals.
Today is day 18 of my 30 day juice cleanse. My two sisters and I decided to do this together to loose some weight and get healthier. We are blogging about it on our website http://www.3juicedupbiotches.com we are looking for some encouragement at this point in the process. Good luck to all of you that are just getting started. The days actually fly by fairly quickly!
Hi, Stacy,
I’ve been juicing and having one meal a day most of the time. Once in a while I have all juice. Once in a while I’ll have 2 meals. 90% of the time my meals are fresh vegetables with either grilled chicken or shrimp and they often include avocado – or I’ll fix a home made fresh vegetable soup and have discovered I like beans and peas in the soup now. Also, I’ve been having one banana a day and usually an ounce of almonds or pecans. I do not have diabetes or high blood pressure. I do take thyroid meds and will have that monitored by my doctor. As long as I’m having at least one meal a day, how long can I stay on the juicing with one meal plan safely? I have a good 100 pounds to lose. Thank you for taking the time to respond!!! I really appreciate that there are professionals like you at Join the Reboot!!! -Priscilla…
Hi prishaynes, sounds like you’ve created an excellent, customized reboot, great job! As long as you are working with your doctor I think continuing on the plan until you have lost a good portion of the 100# you wish to lose (like 70-80#) would make sense and might end up being a 60+ day reboot. The key is having your doctor monitor you to see if you need to add more foods or adjust your plan if you are on an extended reboot, even though yours is modified to include some healthy meals and not just healthy juices. Keep us posted! Wishing you all the best on your journey
Okay – thank you – I know my doctor isn’t up on nutrition since he’s often told me to just have a bowl of cereal. So, it’s good to hear from you. I’ll be seeing him again in about 10 days. Looking forward to good results on bloodwork, etc. Thank you, Stacy, for your assistance!!!
So, I want to do a 30 or 60 day Reboot and I don’t want to involve a doctor mainly because I’m in Ecuador and moving to a small community where doctors will be limited and not likely open minded to this Reboot. What are the risks? And I am aware this is not a medical website. I should add that I need to lose about 100 lbs. Or maybe you can suggest a better reboot program. I do intent to hike at least 1 hour per day after my move.
Hi Jim, I think the best way to get started is to set a goal for 15 days of just juice and then see how you feel to determine the right length of time. Eating veggies/fruits + juice is also another great option and one that can often be better for the long run especially without having a doctor to look after you during the process. Walking/hiking will be an excellent addition. Check out our Classic program as an idea – the first and last 5 days are eating + juicing and the middle 5 just juice which you could extend out if you wish. Best of luck!
Hello Reboot Team,
I would like to start by saying that I am new to juicing, i been doing it for about 2 weeks. But, i have not been doing any of the reboot programs. What i been doing is incorporating juicing into my meal plan. Question.. How long can i juice for ( I am doing Kale,Carrots,Beats,Lemon grass,Apple, Brocoli in my juice).?
Is it helathy to juice for the rest of my life? or should i give my body a rest.. BTW- I do eat a couple meals a day.
Thanks
HI there,
I have a son that is 17 months old and we still nurse. Obviously, he does not nurse for nutrition at this point, but I was wondering if I do a ten day reboot, if this will make my milk dry up? He and I intend to continue nursing for awhile longer, and I do not want to jeopardize my milk supply. I am about 100 pounds over weight and I want to have a long life with my son and husband. Thanks!
Hi Kira, how wonderful you are continuing to nurse your son and are making a shift to healthier eating for your family. We would suggest including fresh juice as part of a healthy diet as opposed to a full reboot while nursing. In part it’s because of not getting all the nutrients you and baby would need – but as you note this is more applicable to a younger baby who is nursing more often. The other rationale is that while on a full reboot or juice fast the detox process that may occur can release stored toxins and other compounds from shrinking fat cells that then circulate in the blood and may pass into milk. We would not want baby to receive these. Here are hints for a healthy plant based diet – certainly include some juice like once a day- and once you are no longer nursing trying a full reboot could be healthy for you.

I’m new to the website. I’m considering the plus dinner plan. I work two full-time jobs. M-F 8a-4:30p & F-Sat 11p-7:30a. I plan on eating lunch around 12p as my only meal. Is there a limit on how much juice and water I should drink? Do I alternate the juice and water for breakfast, snack, dinner, and snack? Help me to set-up the plan to be successful. Thanks
Hi, i need some advise for losing 10kg in abt a month time. which reboot plan should i follow?
Hi Sky, there are many reboot plans to choose from – they can all help to encourage weight loss. Those that are soley or mainly juice tend to result in faster weight loss like the Long weekend plan (which you can extend past 3 days). Here is more information – take a look and let us know if you have any questions
